Abstract
This study aims to analyze the meaning of silence in the Nyepi (Day of Silence) celebration and its contribution to inner transformation and ecological harmony from a cultural ecology perspective. This study uses a qualitative approach with library research methods, focusing on the analysis of cultural concepts, values, and practices embedded in Nyepi. Data were collected from relevant academic literature, books, and scientific journals, and analyzed using descriptive-analytical methods involving interpretation and conceptual reasoning.
The findings suggest that the silence of Nyepi is not merely the absence of physical activity but serves as a reflective mechanism that encourages inner transformation through self-control and the development of ecological awareness. This collective practice also produces tangible environmental impacts, such as reduced emissions and reduced ecological stress, thus creating a temporary ecological harmony. The novelty of this study lies in emphasizing Nyepi as a form of local wisdom that is not only symbolic but also operational in maintaining environmental balance. Therefore, Nyepi can be understood as an integrative model that connects spiritual, social, and ecological dimensions, offering relevant insights for addressing contemporary environmental sustainability challenges.
