Genesis: Artificial Intelligence, Hope, and the Human Spirit views artificial intelligence (AI) as an evolutionary development for humanity, not just as another technology. From the history of discovery to machine intelligence itself, and from politics and national security to economic prosperity and scientific inquiry; from policy to the future, Henry A. Kissinger, Eric Schmidt, and Craig J. Mundie provide a comprehensive approach to this issue. The argument made here is that Genesis’s greatest value lies in its insistence that AI will alter the context within which humans exercise judgment, power, and responsibility. It also has a significant limitation in that at times, based on their historical and civilizational perspectives, the authors may be moving too rapidly from potentiality to prediction with respect to AI capabilities than can be supported by empirical evidence. However, Genesis provides a unique contribution to the study of how governments should govern with regard to AI.
